Larviciding versus fogging

Larviciding treats the standing water so larvae never mature. A serious mosquito programme uses both: fogging for immediate relief in common areas, larviciding of every water body on the premises, plus a residual spray on resting surfaces such as dark corners, under furniture and behind curtains.

Individual flats treating alone rarely see lasting results because mosquitoes fly between units. The effective pattern for a housing society is a scheduled monthly round covering the compound, terrace, tank surrounds, basements, garbage area and stilt parking, stepped up to fortnightly through the monsoon.

Simple habits that make a measurable difference

• Empty and scrub — not just drain — any container that holds water, weekly.
• Keep the AC drip tray dry and the outlet pipe clear.
• Fit mesh on windows and keep it repaired.
• Report waterlogging and blocked terrace drains to the society before the monsoon.
